Mango Habanero BBQ Sauce
This is a medium heat sauce. If you prefer a less spicy sauce, try 3 habanero peppers or substitute the habaneros for a less spicy pepper.
1 Tbsp olive oil
1/2 leek (or you can use 1 small onion)
5 habanero peppers diced
3 cups of chopped mango
6 oz of pumpkin puree (you can also use tomato paste or butternut squash puree)
3/4 cup of apple cider vinegar
1 Tbsp of red pepper flakes
1 Tbsp ground mustard
1 Tbsp smoked paprika
3/4 cup lime juice
salt and pepper to taste
pinch of stevia to taste (or you can use whatever sweetener you desire)
(may add in garlic if desired)
- Saute chopped leeks, peppers, and olive oil together in a pan until soft (MAKE SURE TO WEAR GLOVES WHEN CHOPPING HABANERO PEPPERS) (take seeds out of habaneros unless you like extremely spicy sauce).
- Add remaining ingredients and stir until everything is combined. Bring to a boil, and then reduce heat to simmer for about 20 minutes.
- Put the sauce into a food processor or use an immersion blender to blend until smooth.
