Mango Habanero BBQ Sauce

Mango Habanero BBQ Sauce

This is a medium heat sauce. If you prefer a less spicy sauce, try 3 habanero peppers or substitute the habaneros for a less spicy pepper.

1 Tbsp olive oil

1/2 leek (or you can use 1 small onion)

5 habanero peppers diced

3 cups of chopped mango

6 oz of pumpkin puree (you can also use tomato paste or butternut squash puree)

3/4 cup of apple cider vinegar

1 Tbsp of red pepper flakes

1 Tbsp ground mustard

1 Tbsp smoked paprika

3/4 cup lime juice

salt and pepper to taste

pinch of stevia to taste (or you can use whatever sweetener you desire)

(may add in garlic if desired)

  1. Saute chopped leeks, peppers, and olive oil together in a pan until soft (MAKE SURE TO WEAR GLOVES WHEN CHOPPING HABANERO PEPPERS) (take seeds out of habaneros unless you like extremely spicy sauce).
  2. Add remaining ingredients and stir until everything is combined. Bring to a boil, and then reduce heat to simmer for about 20 minutes.
  3. Put the sauce into a food processor or use an immersion blender to blend until smooth.
